My sister thinks my hair's too long, my dad thinks I'm a bum
I'm working on my Ph. D., so I can't be all that dumb (can I?)
I've got a good job, a new car, and I own my own house
So why is it my in-laws think that I'm such a louse?
Seems like everyone has their own idea about what I should do
I think I'd be better off with a little less peer review

My friends are all experts on investments and the Dow
Everybody's got a stock tip, gotta buy your way in now
Always telling me what I should do with my portfolio
But I lost every dime I had on my cousin's broadway show
I don't need all these people telling me my interest should accrue
I think I'd be better off with a little less peer review

A little less peer review (yeah, listen to me)
A little less peer review (oh yeah, can't you see)
A little less peer review (I've got all that I need)
I don't need my life..... refereed

My roomates into new age stuff, like crystals and tai chi
Eating bark and roots and berries and this awful herbal tea
It's bad enough I have to pay her psychic hotline bills
But she made me give up pizza for some little garlic pills
Always trying to make me see things from her narrow point of view
I think I'd be better off with a little less peer review

All the people that I work with think they know what's best for me
Gotta kiss up to the boss, gotta be all you can be
It's a hegemonic system to which you simply must conform
They don't stand for lucid thought or deviating from the norm
They think they've got all the answers, but they haven't got a clue
And I think I'd be better off with a little less peer review

A little less peer review (yeah, listen to me)
A little less peer review (oh yeah, can't you see)
A little less peer review (I've got all that I need)
I don't need my life..... refereed
